The neighborhood of Maui Meadows is located in the gently sloping foothills of Mount Haleakala, directly above the Wailea Resort, yet away from the touristy areas of Maui. And it’s a convenient 30-minute drive from Kahului Airport.
Maui Meadows real estate features lots ranging in size from a half-acre and up, which allows Maui Meadows to have a more rural feel. Due to the larger lot sizes, Maui Meadows homes have what locals referred to as “Ohana” dwellings or accessory dwellings. Ohana means “family” in Hawaiian. When originally developed, the County permitted additional dwellings on the lots to accommodate additional family members. Extended families living together is customary in the islands. However, in today’s reality, Ohanas are often used as rental properties to help defray expenses and/or for visiting mainlanders. Prices on Maui Meadows homes currently range from $700,000 to as high as $3,000,000 on the upper side. Due to the slightly higher elevation, Maui Meadows residents experience an ever so slightly cooler climate than what is found Kihei and Wailea. And at this elevation, there is slightly more rain annually. Virtually all lots in Maui Meadows have picturesque views of the outer islands, and gorgeous sunsets which occur all year, making Maui Meadows a desirable locale. Directly adjacent to Maui Meadows is the upscale gated community of Kaimanu Estates. This small community offers larger home sites consisting of (9) two-acre parcels. Homes in Kaimanu are much grander in stature, and range in price from $3,000,000 and up. While Ohanas are permitted on these lots, these Ohanas can be as large as 1,000 square feet. Kaimanu Estates is a very well-kept secret, where homes are rarely available. This is confirmed by the fact that there are currently no homes for sale in Kaimanu Estates! Close to Maui Meadows are the luxurious resorts with all the amenities you could ever hope for. There’s world-class golf courses, tennis, spas, dining, shopping, and of course, an abundance of beaches, including Big Beach. You'll find areas to kayak, snorkel and dive among the turtles and dolphins, or explore the lava-flow at La Peruse Bay. |
