Things to Do on Maui

There is almost an “over-abundance” of things to do on the island of Maui.  One of the most popular “must do’s” is attending a Luau.  Several of the hotels stage beachside luaus, featuring Hawaiian delicacies such as a kalua pig cooked in an earthen oven, poi, and haupia (coconut pudding), and a buffet of assorted and more familiar foods.  Of course there is plenty of music, hula and fire dancing performed on a specially built, open-air luau grounds.  The Old Lahaina Luau is one of the finest examples offering excellent food and entertainment.

Land activities abound.  Maui is bike friendly.  And what better way is there to enjoy the spectacular ocean than riding along the shoreline road, or maybe taking in the awesome views on a guided downhill tour of Haleakala.

If you're a water-lover, you've come to the right island.  Amazing beaches, surfing, kayaking, sun bathing and more are all at your doorstep.  In addition, Maui has some of the finest dive spots in Hawaii.  There are two marine conservation areas for diving.  One is at Honolua Bay on West Maui, and the other is at Molokini which is a partially submerged crater from an offshore volcano at Wailea.  Glass-bottom boats and a pleasure submarine reveal the wonders of the undersea world to landlubbers.

Dining has risen to a near art form with all the fine dining on Maui.  Not only are the eateries pleasing to the pallet, but they are diverse.  The pride of Maui Island, however, is Hawaii Regional Cuisine that is served a many award winning restaurants.  Feast at Lele promises an unforgettable experience and features cuisines from several Polynesian cultures and fantastic entertainment

Shopping abounds on Maui with seemingly endless galleries, specialty shops, and malls.  Many carry products unique to Hawaii such as items made from native woods, hand-painted resort fashions, one-of-a-kind hand-made jewelry and glass work.

Of course, there is the usual hiking, driving, and sightseeing where you can wander through nostalgic towns, see the biggest Buddha outside of Asia, walk through an aquarium, or wonder at the beauty of the Iao Needle and West Maui Mountains.

From an arts perspective, you can visit Maui Arts & Cultural Center or the Maui Academy of Performing Arts.  There are literally more opportunities than time to take everything in.
